The 8th Tengzhou Book Fair opens on September 29th in Tengzhou City, Zaozhuang, Shandong Province, during the 2024 New Era Rural Reading Season. This year’s book fair will increase the subsidy for book purchases. On the basis of a 20% -25% discount for all books, 600000 yuan (RMB, the same below) electronic vouchers and 400000 yuan paper book vouchers will be distributed to the public for additional discounts, making it an unprecedented effort to benefit the people.

Liu Wenqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Shandong Publishing Group, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, saying that Tengzhou is a historical and cultural city with profound heritage. Many famous scholars and sages, such as Mozi, the “saint of science”, and Lu Ban, the “master of craftsmen”, have been born here. The fine tradition of valuing culture, education, and poetry and books has been passed down to this day, influencing and nourishing generations of Tengzhou children. As a county-level city, Tengzhou has held book fairs for eight consecutive years, which is unique in Shandong Province and even in counties across the country.
Liu Wenqiang expressed the hope that Tengzhou City will continue to enrich the cultural connotation of book fairs, innovate reading promotion forms, expand communication and promotion carriers, continuously expand the participation, reputation and influence of Tengzhou Book Fair, further polish and strengthen the cultural brand of book fairs, and make new and greater contributions to the construction of bookish Shandong. On that day, two well-known guests spoke on site. Cao Wenxuan, a member of the Presidium of the Chinese Writers Association and a professor of liberal arts in the Department of Chinese at Peking University, explained the importance of books and reading through stories and cases; Du Zexun, a professor at the School of Literature of Shandong University and a renowned paleontologist, shared his personal experience of buying and reading books, and encouraged the public to read more and good books, working together to build a good reading atmosphere for all.
Wang Guangbu, member of the Standing Committee of the Zaozhuang Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Tengzhou Municipal Party Committee, stated in his speech that in recent years, Tengzhou City has adhered to the principles of cultivating cultural talents, promoting cultural development, enriching the city with culture, and benefiting the people with culture. It has continuously cultivated a fertile ground for promoting the integration of culture and tourism, continuously improving the quality of urban functions, comprehensively optimizing the supply of public services, and making culture the most sustainable and profound source of strength for urban development.
Wang Guangbu pointed out that the Tengzhou Book Fair has been successfully held for seven sessions and has become a popular cultural festival among the public. The opening ceremony of the day was presided over by Zhou Gang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Tengzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Tengzhou, and the relevant award ceremony was held on the spot.
It is reported that the 8th Tengzhou Book Fair, with the theme of “Meeting in the Chinese Good City to Share the Fragrant Book of the Prosperous Era”, will last from September 29th to October 3rd. The city has also created a cloud based venue, allowing book fairs to take the “Internet Express” and connect readers from all over the country.
