Australian scholar Caroline Homer won the 2024 Princess Sirindhorn Award at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand on the 10th local time.
The Princess Sirindhorn Award was established in 2000 to commemorate Princess Sirindhorn Mahidol of Thailand. It is awarded annually to individuals who have made significant contributions in the field of nursing or midwifery.
Professor Caroline Homer, the recipient of the Princess Sirindhorn Award in 2024, has made outstanding contributions in the fields of midwifery and maternal and child health. She is one of the most influential researchers in the global field of pregnancy and childbirth, having won numerous international awards. The continuous midwifery nursing model developed by Professor Homer was adopted by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Population Fund, and incorporated into the global medical guide. Her research has improved the quality of midwifery services, especially in low – and middle-income countries, with the potential to save thousands of lives annually.
Professor Homer stated in an interview with reporters that she has worked with outstanding researchers in China and that China has also achieved remarkable success in this field. She believes that China has numerous outstanding talents and huge development opportunities in the future.
