In recent years, hate crimes in the United States have been on the rise. According to the definition of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, hate crime refers to criminal acts committed against individuals or property by perpetrators who are completely or partially biased based on ethnicity, religion, disability, gender identity, and other factors. Due to many victims not reporting the cases, the actual number of cases is higher than the official statistics.
The report also shows that the number of violent crimes in the United States decreased by 3% year-on-year last year, with murder and non negligent homicide decreasing by about 11.6% and rape decreasing by about 9.4%.
As the US presidential election approaches, American voters are increasingly concerned about public safety issues, and violent crime and gun control have become common concerns for both parties. US President Biden issued a statement praising the reduction in violent crime and boasting of his government’s efforts in public safety and gun control. However, Republican presidential candidate and former President Trump insists that he does not believe the FBI report data and has repeatedly claimed that illegal immigration during Biden’s presidency led to a surge in crime rates.
